My MV-Gleek: Harry Shum, Jr.

I got a case of the willies yesterday because I was thinking about how awesome Harry Shum, Jr. was during the somewhat lackluster "The Substitute" episode, which got me thinking about how Mike Chang has slowly become one of the better characters on Glee. I was even going through all of his short, but memorable scenes in my head, and I was tempted to start a Facebook campaign about how he should become a series regular instead of Darren Criss.

Then the news broke, and it looks like Other Asian will indeed be promoted to a regular starting next season. I'm not going to lie, this announcement really made my day because the step up was greatly deserved, especially since Shum has taken every little scene he's been given during Season 2 and has capitalized on it.

So far Chang's had some of the funniest moments of Season 2, and it mostly thanks to Shum's surprisingly good comic timing. Sure, a lot of Chang's best stuff have been one-liners ("Here we go", "Stay away from my woman", and "And Tina" will always stick out in my mind), but in a lot of ways they've been better than what we've gotten from Brittany because they're realistic reactions.

Luckily, all of Shum's best moments have not been limited to just quips, and he's been given the chance to really showcase his biggest strength: dancing. I know I've said this before, but Shum single-handidly sold me on Glee because of his dance moves during "It's My Life/Confessions". The way he hit the ground and sprung back up like he was defying gravity convinced me that this show was special. I'm glad that he's been given more opportunities to shine this season, and "Sing!" along with "Make 'Em Laugh" have quickly become some of my favorite S2 moments thanks to Changster.

Mike Chang will not go down as one of the greatest television characters ever, but his inclusion in the Glee universe has definitely made the show more enjoyable, and I'm really happy for Harry Shum, Jr. Now, let's get him more than two-lines an episode.

P.S. - For those who haven't seen the "Make 'Em Laugh" homage yet, check it out...

Even Shum's slapstick is pretty good.
