Quick Thoughts: COMMUNITY, "Intro to Felt Surrogacy"

Out of all of the Season 4 episodes, "Intro to Felt Surrogacy" felt the most Harmon-y, but it didn't quite nail it and wasn't as strong as some of the "zombie" installments.

Riffing on the Muppets and children's television as a way to examine the relationships and dynamics of the group was something that was right up Dan Harmon's ally, and it's an idea that had promise but the execution failed. Most of the deep secrets that were revealed didn't feel organic, and the gimmick was more of a distraction than anything else, but the sweet moment between Jeff and Shirley landed, and Troy interacting with his puppet cracked me up. Also, I'm cool with any episode that features Sara Bareilles. It's a shame she's not going back to The Sing-Off.

I'm sure Dan Harmon could've done a better job with the concept that was utilized in "Intro to Felt Surrogacy," and it probably would've been a better idea to stay away from these kind of homage episodes. I guess we should give props to the new showrunners for trying, but it didn't work and they should've spent more time making Community their own.
